WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid

WebSphere Software

Overview

WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid enables the entry, execution and management of batch jobs.

When combined with the workload management capabilities in WebSphere Extended Deployment, batch jobs and online transaction processing applications can execute simultaneously.

  • Provides a full batch processing system, including comprehensive development and management tools, delivering a complete out-of-the-box solution for building and deploying Java-based batch applications on all platforms supported by WebSphere.
  • Delivers a unified Java batch execution environment built on WebSphere (zAAP eligible batch on z/OS) leveraging common tools, programming models, and practices across the enterprise, both distributed and z/OS systems.
  • Enables the incremental migration of COBOL to Java (on z/OS) thereby reducing the risks associated with a batch modernization project
  • Integrates with existing enterprise batch schedulers such as Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS), CA7, Control-M, Zeke to help deliver a robust, cost-effective, WebSphere-based batch execution environment
  • Enables new execution patterns including: a virtualized OLTP and Batch runtime environment built on WebSphere; highly parallel batch jobs; XTP batch, and many others.
  • Integrates with the overall SOA strategy of reuse by enabling one to share business logic across both the OLTP and Batch paradigms.
  • Delivers high-performance batch processing by leveraging the System-Z, z/OS, and WAS z/OS performance optimizations gained when executing within close proximity of the data.
