In this instructor-led course, students learn how to use IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console, other Tivoli products, to monitor networks and business infrastructure. This course will focus on understanding, using and configuring best practices rules built into the default rule base. IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console ships with rules to process events sent by IBM Tivoli NetView (the NetView rule set) and IBM Tivoli Monitoring (the ebusiness rule set). Students will learn to use and configure those rules to solve common business monitoring problems. Using default rules, students will learn to solve common IBM TEC tasks, such as IBM TEC database maintenance and event escalation. In addition, students will learn how to analyze historical data and create reports by integrating with IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse with IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console. Student exercises provide hands-on experience.
Objectives
After completing this course, students will be able to:
Configure correlation between TEC and the ebusiness monitoring products: ITM Monitoring for Websphere, MQ events or DB2 databases
Configure correlation between NetView events and ITM events
Configure TEC rules to automate TEC database cleanup
Manipulate TEC rules to enable or disable rulesets
Configure TEC to provide data to the IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse
Use the default rule base events, particularly the NetView and ebusiness rule sets.
Generate reports using IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse
Configure TEC rules to provide event escalation, event filtering, and endpoint heartbeat monitoring
Demonstrate methods of troubleshooting event flow through rule sets
