- Overview introduces the TSM components, concepts, daily tasks, and job roles for Tivoli Storage Manager 5.5 Extended Edition.
- Administrative Interfaces presents all of the TSM administrative client interfaces and the TSM backup-archive client interfaces, and the exercises give you the opportunity to use all of the interfaces.
- Storage Pool Operations describes the types of storage pools and storage pool devices. It also describes storage pool concepts including hierarchy, migration, and collocation. In the exercises you will start a storage pool migration process.
- Protecting the Database and Storage Pools explains the functions of the TSM database, recovery log, and storage pools, and how to protect them with backups. In the exercises, you will preform a TSM database backup.
- Managing Storage Media describes tasks and concepts associated with media management including scratch tapes, tape labeling, checkin and checkout, volume access, movement to offsite storage, expiration, reclamation, and media errors. You will also learn how to move media offsite using the Disaster Recovery Manager feature of Tivoli Storage Manager 5.5 Extended Edition. In the exercises, you will simulate moving media offsite and you will restore a damaged volume by using the offsite volume.
- Scheduling and Monitoring Daily Operations explains scheduling of daily events and gives examples of how to monitor Tivoli Storage Manager. You will also learn how to use the TSM Operational Reporting tool. In the exercises you will schedule a server operation.
- Backup-Archive Clients introduces the functions of the TSM backup-archive client, including backup, archive, restore, and retrieve. In the exercises you will backup a file and restore it.

This is a basic course for operators who will be responsible for managing the daily operations of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 5.5.

You should have:
- Ability to navigate through Windows applications
- Working knowledge of an Internet browser
- Basic understanding of client-server concepts
To participate in both the lectures and labs for this course, student workstation must meet the following hardware requirements:
- Minimum of 256 MB of memory
- Windows 2000 or XP
- Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher.
- 128-bit encryption
- Versions of Internet Explorer prior to version 6.0 and Windows 2000 must have the High Encryption Packs installed
- Minimum 30Kbps dedicated Internet bandwidth
