In its Magic Quadrant for Product Information Management Software, Gartner positioned IBM as a "Challenger" for its WebSphere Product Center 5.3.2 software. IBM believes WebSphere Product Center has helped position the company as a "Challenger" in the Gartner Magic Quadrant and as a leader with respect to its ability to execute. PIM software allows businesses to turn disparate silos of product information into strategic assets, powering sales, marketing and supply chain initiatives including new product introduction, ecommerce, and multi-channel efforts. PIM is part of MDM, which goes beyond product data to include customer, asset, person, party, supplier, financial and other domains that organizations deem to have cross-functional significance. According to Gartner, the PIM market grew by nearly 50 percent from 2005 to 2006 to more than $300 million in 2006. Gartner expects the market to see strong growth and estimates that the market will be worth approximately $860 million by 2009.
