Today there are many communities with either a dedicated or a partial focus on Service Oriented Architecture and what this approach can do for businesses, universities, industry and individuals. Some of these on-line and face to face groups lack broad access to others who share the same interests and goals. With the Smart SOA Social Network, IBM is building the infrastructure for these disparate groups to connect with a much larger community with both organizational and role based views.
IBM has been building many active communities focused on SOA. For example:
- User Groups - The Global WebSphere Community has over 22,000 members across 120+ countries (w/ face to face meetings held in 45 countries)
- Developers - Our SOA Space on developerWorks serves over 120,000 unique visitors each month. We have over 270,000 downloads of Projectzero.org
- Architects - developerWorks Architect Community with its SOA focus receives over 25K unique visitors each month
- Business Partners - over 5,000 business partners in SOA BP Community
- Universities - Over 134 Universities in 34 countries are leveraging IBM Service Science curriculum
The success of the Smart SOA Social Network will rely on its ability to connect existing and future third party communities as well as these IBM led groups. The members of these other groups will also benefit from the establishment of the far reaching network. The SOA Consortium is a new SOA advocacy group comprised of end users, service providers, and technology vendors, committed to helping the Global 1000 successfully adopt SOA by 2010. The SOA Consortium is an example of one of the communities who have signed on to help with the creation and growth of the Smart SOA Social Network.
