There are two pathways to realizing the benefits of the Jazz platform: an evolutionary path optimized for the majority of Rational customers, and a revolutionary path optimized for small and medium-sized, distributed teams. Over time, these two pathways are planned to converge, resulting in a unified next-generation platform for collaborative software delivery.

Rational customers are already on the evolutionary path
If you are a current Rational customer, you may already be on the path to gain the benefits of the Jazz platform. Today, many Rational products can gain the benefits of the Jazz platform through product integrations that enable rich participation in Jazz-managed processes. Over time, many Rational products are planned to evolve into native Jazz-based implementations, which will further broaden and deepen their collaborative ALM (application lifecycle management) capabilities.

A wide range of interoperability options are planned to be available, allowing your organization to adopt Jazz technology at the timing and pace that makes sense for you. Interoperability with Rational ClearCase®, ClearQuest®, Build Forge and third-party products is designed to make the transition to the Jazz platform a productive and positive experience. For the majority of Rational customers, the best way to reap the benefits of Jazz will be to continue to invest in the Rational portfolio.
Small and medium sized teams can join the Jazz revolution
Small and medium-sized software development teams can get started with easy-to-use, team-based products built from the ground-up with Jazz technology. Rational Team Concert will be the first Jazz-based product family. Rational Team Concert will provide work item support, version control and build management in addition to the collaborative features of the Jazz technology platform. In the future, IBM expects to evolve many existing IBM products on to the Jazz platform, and create new, Jazz-based offerings, which will enrich the collaborative nature of the IBM Rational Software Delivery platform.
