OverviewProduct roadmapJazz features and benefits

People building great software, together.

The Jazz platform is designed to provide a rich set of capabilities to the Jazz-based products that leverage it. Jazz-based products are products that leverage a shared set of services provided by the Jazz Team Server. Rational Team Concert is the first product based on the Jazz technology platform.

Capabilities of the Jazz platform

Jazz technology enables teams to collaborate in context of the work they are doing
Capability Function Benefit
Team awareness and automation Team members can see who else is logged in, what they are working on, and will automatically be notified of changes, inputs and milestones that impact their work. Enables teams to collaborate directly in the context of the work they are doing, especially in globally or organizationally distributed environments
Collaboration features Provides project-integrated presence and messaging, including chat and blogs. Improves team cohesion, especially for global or distributed teams, by making it easy to share project documents, collaborate in real time and get quick answers to ad-hoc questions.
Extensible client and server infrastructure Both the Jazz platform client and server are based on open Web standards and are designed to be extended with additional plugins. Extends the benefits of team collaboration to a broad range of business and technology users who can share team documents using an array of client options. Increases your flexibility in adding commercial and open source products to your software delivery platform.

Jazz technology empowers organizations to right-size governance to unique project and team needs
Capabilaity Function Benefit
Process awareness and automation A customized project process guides team workflow and automates process steps and checkpoints at varying degrees of rigor. Automates both individual and team workflows by aligning work activities and project notifications with defined process steps. Improves team transparency.
Flexible, rules-based process definition Specify and modify process rules for different teams, projects and project phases. Modify your governance processes over time, avoiding the need to define everything up front. Helps organizations right size governance to project, team and lifecycle needs. Encourage early-phase experimentation and enforce late-phase risk reduction by specifying looser constraints early on and tighter process in the end-game phase.
Project dashboards Project, individual and team dashboards provide accurate project health information drawn directly from ongoing work, replacing tedious and time-consuming reporting overhead. Makes it easier to stay on top of project progress, troubleshoot project problems and take corrective action earlier in the project lifecycle.
