Product details
IBM WebSphere Everyplace Embedded Software is the industry's first integrated, end-to-end software solution for extending e-business to pervasive devices. The WebSphere Everyplace Suite middleware is designed to provide a secure, reliable and flexible IT infrastructure that is fully customizable and can scale to manage the enormous number and variety of network-connected devices that are emerging in the marketplace. The Embedded Edition integrates the right components for enabling devices to access value-added services and trusted transaction processing via the Internet, including:

  • The IBM Service Management Framework™ (SMF), a standards-based architecture that is designed to be compliant with specifications developed by the cross-industry Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi). SMF provides for the lifecycle management of network delivered applications.
  • Embedded best-of-breed open standards-compliant real-time operating systems (RTOS), such as MontaVista Linux and QNX Neutrino, that support multiple hardware platforms.
  • IBM WebSphere Studio Device Developer (formerly VisualAge® Micro Edition): Java-based tools and runtimes built from the ground up for the embedded environment. Includes built-in remote debugging capability and an enhanced integrated development environment (IDE) that will support collaborative team development.
  • Core services, including HTTPServer/Proxy, DNS, and SSL, that can be tuned to user specifications.
  • IBM ViaVoice® Embedded for Multiplatforms supports a variety of RTOS and microprocessors, making the development of speech-activated solutions easy and practical.

The IBM advantage
The IBM WebSphere Everyplace Embedded Software is built for speed, to enable you to respond quickly to changing market realities and consumer demand. Device manufacturers will appreciate the lifecycle management features - which by making software updates transparent to the end user, and by streamlining the continuous evolution of the software, extends the lifecycles of the devices themselves. The Java-based programming environment conserves the developer's time by allowing applications to be written once, then run on a broad array of devices. Service providers and ISPs will be able to integrate existing or outside services seamlessly, making it easy to add new services at any time. Content that is created once in XML can be used for all present and future devices.

The Embedded Edition integrates the key software components needed to support a broad spectrum of pervasive computing devices, ranging from PDAs and Web-enabled cell phones, to in-vehicle information systems, Internet appliances, set-top boxes, and service gateways. The Embedded Edition can help you get your solution up and running quickly - from prototype to test to deployment. And IBM is ready to assist you in streamlining the development of pilot applications and services for any new or existing device.
