Personal Communications

Overview
IBM Personal Communications is a key component of IBM's Host Access products, providing access to applications and data whether residing on mid-range or enterprise servers (mainframes).

Provides an optimal platform for traditional access to data and applications on the host and includes tools to help transform your traditional business into an On-Demand business.

IBM Personal Communications received the Microsoft certification: "Designed for Microsoft® Windows® XP." This certification confirms that Personal Communications executes on Microsoft Windows XP and does not interfere with the operating system or application stability.

Supports nearly any protocol, such as ISDN, HPR, SNA and IP, to help you connect a user to any data, anywhere.

Enables your company to connect to your customers, suppliers, partners and employees.

Personal Communications provides SNA interfaces of LUA, APPC, and CPI-C on Windows platform. Previously, it also provided similar functions on OS/2 platform. Communications Server for Linux and it's Remote API Client provides equivalent SNA interfaces for LUA, APPC, and CPI-C on Windows and Linux client or server platforms. LUA interface provides access to SNA LU type 0, 1, 2, and 3. APPC and CPI-C interface provides access to SNA LU type LU 6.2. CPI-C interface is provided in Java or C language. Host on Demand provides TN3270 emulation on Windows, Linux, and Unix platforms." Host on Demand and Remote API Client combined provides a migration path from OS/2 to Linux or Windows for SNA and 3270 users.

Through the use of Enterprise Extender in Personal Communications, customers can maintain the integrity of their SNA LU6.2/CPIC/APPC applications over IP. This capability is an IBM exclusive, both on desktops and in the communications servers that provide the gateway back into the SNA environment, so you have the only solution that can solve the problem of transporting these SNA applications over an IP network.
