Intro: The Problem

Narrator: Meet Dave. He owns a small business on the rise, so Dave's a very busy guy. Including today, a meeting with Howard, his top client - and it looks like things are off to a rocky start.

It's not just Dave who's under pressure - his business feels the stress too. Howard's pretty upset about the quality of Dave's last shipment.

Unfortunately, it's not just Howard who's concerned - Dave's other clients are as well.

Sorry Dave. Bad day.

Dave knows his problems can be solved, and that better technology is part of the equation. Truth is, his software is showing its age. Dave knows he needs improvements, but he's not sure where to start. Fortunately, he knows who to ask. There's Elaine, the operations manager and Dave's right hand. There's Todd, the IT whiz. And there's Stan, Dave's new finance manager. It's true, Dave's in a bind, but he knows he can count on this team.

Elaine: No problem Dave, we're on it!

Module 1: Brainstorming

Todd: What's up with the boss? Too many double espressos?

Elaine: If only. We've got bigger problems, much bigger problems.

Look. Here's the way I see it: we've got new locations, new people, and partners who need answers. But no way for these teams to find or share the right information needed to make good, fast decisions. We're working harder but accomplishing less. I have to make several phone calls to plan a simple meeting. It's nearly impossible to get anything done online since our key applications aren't integrated. Bottom line: we're growing... but I feel our software is holding us back.

Todd: So...?

Elaine: If we're serious about growth, and streamlining our workflow, we need to integrate our applications... to speed up our processes so our teams can collaborate and share information online from anywhere, anytime.

We need better email, group calendaring, integrated instant messaging, and an easy way to schedule group meetings and host web conferences - with solid security.

Stan: That works for me work.

Module 2: Sharing insight

Todd: Hey Stan, does this sound familiar?

Stan: (chuckles) I hate to say it, but this sounds very familiar. At my old job, we were still doing things manually! We just couldn't keep up... the technology we did have was a mess. Our suppliers were all over the place and hard to keep track of, product development slowed to a snail's pace, our shipments were late... and our customers were getting really uneasy.

Elaine: How did you get out of that one?

Stan: We automated and integrated much of our work. We decided technology could help make us more efficient. Within our budget, we worked with a business partner to set up approval routing for our processes, tools for quick collaborative decision-making, fast, easy access to information, and instant messaging - to find experts fast!

Productivity increased, quality improved. After a while, the whole business was moving faster and in the same direction - the difference was amazing!

Todd: That would work.

Module 3: Tech perspective

Elaine: Ok Todd, something tells me you've got something for us to look at...

Todd: (chuckles) Ok, here's where we're at today: We have problems accessing the right people... and the right information, and our teams have trouble communicating! Productivity is down... and ops costs are off the charts ... clearly, our current piecemeal system just isn't cutting it.

Stan: Wow, that sure looks familiar.

Todd: Now this is what we've been looking for: Shared team workspaces. Collaborative document management. Secure instant messaging. And an integrated portal. All in one easy-to-install, easy-to-use solution designed just for smaller businesses like ours.

Stan: Yeah! We can use the same portal to access and integrate our business applications and information!

Todd: But that's not all... we get web conferencing, better email with integrated group scheduling, all with secure mobile access.

And the best part? We can extend collaboration to other parts if the business too!

Stan: Perfect! We can connect with customers and prospects in real time! We'll cover more territory in one day than our teams typically travel to in a week.

Elaine: Now that'd work!

Outro: The solution

Narrator: Two months have passed and Dave's team is clicking. How? They found Lotus.

Elaine now uses Lotus Software from IBM, increasing the company's productivity from the inside out.

With Lotus Software on board, Stan's not only working more efficiently - he's saving time and money. And Todd, well... he's still the IT whiz.

Dave's business is back on track. Products are getting to market faster, quality is up, and they're more responsive to customers than ever before.

And Howard? Well, he couldn't be happier. His shipments are looking great - and so is Dave!
