Retail Internet Exchange (RIX) from E-On Integration SA is a Lotus Domino-based platform for the automotive dealer industry. This real time, 24x7 working environment was designed for one of the top auto dealers in Greece for its network of 130 dealers and 1000+ car owners. RIX facilitates the implementation of standardized service procedures, helps ensure top quality services and provides a wealth of information on each car by VIN. In one year, RIX helped the customer to issue approximately 500,000 invoices, manage more than 400,000 spare parts, and generate over 150,000 service orders for more than 80 companies. According to the Lotus Award judges, "This year's Best Industry Solution winner was a nearly unanimous choice for its innovative industry solution approach."

Brookstone Technologies Pty Limited enabled their customer, a leading utility, to improve the way they do business in order to increase market share, enhance profitability, increase revenues, boost efficiency, control costs, and improve customer service. Brookstone Technologies designed a custom version of the BrookstoneVirtualOffice (BVO) a comprehensive suite of fully integrated next-generation Business Productivity applications/modules. The BVO is built on Lotus Notes and Domino and uses IBM Lotus Sametime for awareness and instant communication support. Brookstone Technologies' customer was able to (1) improve management and dissemination of critical business knowledge (2) increase efficiency in personnel rostering & scheduling management and (3) improve and simplify internal processes with extensive workflow. The result? The customer's operations are currently growing at the astounding rate of 10% per month and their market share is rapidly increasing.

The Mission Control System from Lotus 911 tracks information on patients who need free air transportation to medical treatments not available locally and for other compassionate purposes that benefit the community. The Lotus Notes and Domino system provides the capability to compare schedules of available pilots with the requirements of each patient to successfully complete the mission on time and as inexpensively as possible. The Mission Control System includes publishing information to the web, emailing approvals, paging pilots, online creation of forms and approvals, flight schedules, patient information and histories, pilot and plane information, and more. The enormous benefit of being able to instantly share specific information based on role, coordinate flights with active pilots and report back on the results has quadrupled the ability to cover cases and, in some cases, saving lives.

This new composite application framework provides IBM Business Partners and customers with the capability to integrate and blend heterogeneous applications in the context of the end user's role, into the Lotus Notes 8 client; transforming solutions into a single seamless work environment that boosts end user effectiveness. Submissions for this category should be solutions that leverage the composite application framework, re-usable components or new extensions that can be integrated into the Notes 8 environment based on contexts defined by end consumer requirements. These entries will be judged based on the business value they demonstrate, the extent to which these solutions can be integrated with other applications or solutions, and ability to demonstrate how these enhancements boost end user and organizational effectiveness.

The One View Management (OVM) composite application from e-office is based on the existing IBM Lotus Notes TeamSpirit CRM application. It leverages the composite application model for on the glass integration of a variety of components. These components are wired together and organized on different pages to provide a more effective user interface, replacing a busy menu pane by always-available sidebar applications and tabbed components in the main pane. Required information and applications are presented to the user in the single composite application to get their job done faster. In addition to NSF components from TeamSpirit and Lotus Notes' own mail application, Eclipse components and components which access external data and services such as Google Maps were developed and integrated to provide the complete solution. e-office have also exploited one of the strengths of composite applications by developing reusable components which can then be wired in to other applications as needed. With this composite application extension of their existing product they have shown how to innovate and add value to the application, make it easier and more compelling to use, without losing sight of the core business need that it intends to solve.
