Composite applications are business style mashups. Mashups are a Web 2.0 technology that combines several applications or sources of information into a single, cohesive experience for the end user. The value of mashups is that content can be packaged and reused across multiple applications or websites, reducing development expense. A composite application is similar in concept, but scaled to support the robust environment of enterprise applications. IBM's composite application technology allows users to quickly combine business applications, situational applications, collaboration tools, and productivity templates as needed to fulfill business needs as defined by their role or responsibility, reducing the burden on IT.
