WebSphere Integration Developer

WebSphere software - Transaction management and integration
Features and benefits

Integration developers have to learn only one set of skills, using one tool for many uses. WebSphere Integration Developer is the Eclipse-based tool for building SOA-based BPM and integration solutions across WebSphere Process Server, IBM WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus and IBM WebSphere Adapters. As a result, WebSphere Integration Developer simplifies integration with rich features that accelerate the adoption of SOA by rendering existing IT assets as service components that encourage reuse and efficiency. It enables rapid assembly of business solutions by wiring reusable service components that can be discovered from multiple locations such as the WebSphere Service Registry and Repository. It also provides a component architecture that simplifies component interfaces and plug-and-play solutions.

Integration developers can assemble complex business solutions — regardless of whether the components are processes, mediations, services, human tasks, business rules, adapters or code. They construct process and integration solutions using drag-and-drop technology to visually define the sequence and flow of business processes. The visual editors for human-related tasks, business state machines, business rules, data mapping and other components minimize the need to write Java™ code. And IBM WebSphere Business Modeler together with WebSphere Integration Developer provides an end-to-end solution for business analysts to collaborate with developers to define and implement business processes in a simple and straightforward fashion.. The tight integration between these tools lets you make incremental changes in the business model and apply them without loss of implementation. The integration with WebSphere Business Monitor lets you to create monitoring models that define events that can be monitored on a business dashboard.

WebSphere Integration Developer delivers a flexible user interface that allows a client to generate and customize user interfaces that can be used for human interactions within a business process. This comprehensive support includes wizards for generation JavaServer Faces (JSF) based, portlet-based, and forms-based user interfaces.

WebSphere Integration Developer also:

  • Provides comprehensive support for assembling composite applications based on standards.
  • Allows you to develop executable processes based on WS-BPEL, including the IBM extensions.
  • Delivers full support for specifying integrated fault and event handling.
  • Includes compensation definition support that provides a logical "undo" capability for steps in process execution.
  • Leverages industry-standard interfaces and schemas represented in Web Services Description Language (WSDL) and XML Schema Definition (XSD).
  • Includes a wide range of adapters for interactions with people, data, and systems including Email, Flat File, FTP, Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) for development and production use. Bundles packaged application adapters (SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle E-business, JD Edwards, and Siebel Business Applications for development use).

New features in WebSphere Integration Developer V6.1.2 include:

Enhanced life-cycle management of BPM projects

  • Enhanced life-cycle management of BPM projects through integration with IBM Rational Asset Manager V7.1:
  • Helps manage the reuse and traceability of models and other artifacts. It delivers a scalable solution for clients who need to manage large numbers of BPM artifacts and the relationships between them. The user can search for, and publish, artifacts from WebSphere Integration Developer. Attachments can be managed through the IBM Rational Asset Manager (RAM) web user interface. Links to data and batch upload of data are also supported by IBM Rational Asset Manager.
  • Helps simplify collaboration with WebSphere Business Modeler.
  • The repository is a key component in providing simple sharing of BPM models and other artifacts between business and IT users, whether they are using WebSphere Business Modeler, WebSphere Integration Developer, or the Monitoring Model Editor in WebSphere Business Monitor. This helps eliminate explicit exporting and importing of artifacts when using multiple tools, which can simplify the user experience.

Accelerated development time

  • Accelerates development time by using the enhanced integrated Test client and component test support, and delivers improved problem determination:
  • Enhances visual tracing by showing more fine-grained events and visual execution path within the implementation when testing state machines, processes, and mediation flows.
  • Delivers a new capability for testing XML maps in isolation, which is done using the local built-in XSLT engine for a rapid iterative development experience. Can also set breakpoints and debug XML maps locally using the Test client.
  • Includes enhanced human task testing and access to data such as SOAP messages and log records. The component test support allows the developer to manipulate aspects of human tasks during testing. The developer can specify and examine SOAP messages as they enter and exit SCA modules.
  • Data values used in testing may now be more easily shared across Test client sessions and test cases.
  • Delivers a new capability to restore the Unit Test Environment (UTE) to the original install state. This helps ensure that there is no variability in the testing environment between tests.
  • Delivers improved console messages and visualizes transaction quality of service support in the assembly editor. Provides capability for more problems in the problem view. This can help reduce problems currently only found at execution time.

A flexible and more powerful development environment:

  • Can be used within a remotely hosted Citrix Presentation Server environment. IBM today provides the SOA Sandbox and it leverage a Citrix environment to provide architects and developers the ability to try our SOA software without the need for installation.
  • Delivers enhanced integration with IBM Rational ClearCase with support for the ClearCase Remote Client. This removes the requirement to install the IBM Rational ClearCase client on the machine running WebSphere Integration Developer, thereby helping to simplify the use of IBM Rational ClearCase as a way to manage the source files for WebSphere Integration Developer development projects.
  • Can import COBOL for WebSphere MQ, JMS, or FTP bindings without having to write code. and can quickly set CICS header information on the MQ binding.
  • Improved support for XML schema including new support for substitution groups, and improved interoperability with Web Services hosted in Microsoft .NET and Apache Axis platforms.
  • Improves support for arrays in the XML map editor.
  • Shows which files are pending on a publish to a server.
  • Supports refactoring of interface parameter names.

Accelerated iterative development

  • Accelerates iterative development between the business analyst and IT developers through integration with WebSphere Business Modeler:
  • Helps improve traceability of human tasks and business rules. Supports the ability to compare and merge human task and business rule changes in a business process imported from WebSphere Business Modeler. Provides support for business process annotations from WebSphere Business Modeler.
  • Allows the user to add visual notes and comments to tasks in the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) editor, Mediation Flow editor, Business State Machine editor, and SCA Assembly editor.
  • Delivers support for business calendar. Provides the ability to handle Calendar information from WebSphere Business Modeler or created directly in WebSphere Integration Developer. The calendar information helps improve actions based on time by allowing calendar rules to be created and used, such as rules for dealing with weekends and holidays as non-business days.
