Interview with Arthur Britz
AB_2: ABSA is a financial services company. We’re based in Johannesburg, South Africa, part of the Barclays Group.
AB_6: ABSA has 8.4 million customers and over 13 million active accounts.
AB_31: In terms of ETL processing workload, we process in the region of 4.5 billion records with our infrastructure.
AB_29: The business challenge is huge.
AB_9: To us business intelligence quite important. It’s a big driver in our business
AB_29: Specific focus for our business is on performance. We need to get more bang for our buck. The only way to do that is to really understand our business - driving the high demand on business intelligence.
AB_9: We now are embarking on our third evolution of the warehouse. Quite an extensive business intelligence solution it’s approximately 1,200 reports from forty plus different sources.
AB_29: As we look at the trend, it’s just going to get worse the further we go more and more demand is going to come and that needs to be satisfied.
AB_18a: We utilize IBM’s P series for the processing power as well as IBM storage.
AB_15: We’ve also implemented Oracle RAC, Oracle Warehouse Builder, Oracle Workflow, and on the business intelligence side, Oracle Discover.
MR_41: One of the major benefits of the solution is the reliability of the hardware. It really does give me the time to concentrate on the things that I need to concentrate on rather than worry with unnecessary issues.
AB_26: In instances where we’ve measured return on investment, we’ve measured 286% ROI of a period of five years on our business intelligence solution automating the manual reports and standardizing the way we produce them.
AB_32: I must say that we are extremely happy and satisfied with the service we do receive from IBM.
AB_21: Refreshing technology is very important to us. We’re experiencing an absolute explosion in the market. So I think in terms of technology it’s important to stay on top of the next wave. For us the key focus is to make if more affordable, to grow as our business grows. For that we’ve selected IBM, with a specific focus on the p Series, and joint with Oracle Grid technology for driving our business intelligence.
