Version 6.0.0.1 of IBM Rational Application Developer and IBM Rational Web Developer is now available. In addition to providing a service release, users have the option to leverage the following new functionality:
New for both Rational Application Developer and Rational Web Developer:
- Expanded support for EGL - Conversion utility supporting the migration of Informix 4GL applications to Enterprise Generation Language hosted on the Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) version 10, WYSIWYG editor for legacy green screens (TUI), and HP and Solaris Runtime support.
New for Rational Application Developer
- J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA) tools and adapters - Includes all new simplified Wizards to generate Java connector code and J2C standards based connectors for building WebSphere applications that integrate CICS and IMS transactions.
- WebSphere Portal site tools - Now supports WebSphere Portal version 5.1 for creating portal pages, themes and skins visually.
- Expanded portlet development - Now supports PeopleSoft and Lotus Domino portlet development.
- Struts portlet with JSR 168 - In addition to IBM Portlet API, the product now supports the Java Specification Request 168 API for Struts portlet development. JSR 168 is the portlet specification that defines a set of APIs for portlets and addresses standardization for preferences, user information, portlet requests and responses, deployment packaging, and security.
In October 2004, IBM announced major new releases of WebSphere Studio Application Developer and WebSphere Studio Site Developer. These releases added significant software technology enhancements that simplify and accelerate application development and deployment and improve code quality. IBM also unveiled at that time new names for these products:
- WebSphere Studio Application Developer is now IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software.
- WebSphere Studio Site Developer is now IBM Rational Web Developer for WebSphere Software.
IBM Rational is IBM's primary source for core developer tools that support the IBM Rational Software Development Platform (SDP) and is now directly managing the core Java integrated development environments as well. This strategic change serves to strengthen IBM's delivery of core developer tools that address your needs, are tightly integrated with the SDP, and leverage powerful Rational software technologies to improve the software development lifecycle. The new product names reflect this new alignment with IBM Rational software.
