One of the most widely used
facilities on the Internet is Mail. The
Mail Server on TPF provides Internet mail handling while taking advantage of
the inherent characteristics of TPF: superior
performance, mission-critical reliability, phenomenal
scalability, and 24x365 availability.
The standard and widely used Mail protocols of SMTP
(Simple Mail Transport Protocol), POP (Post Office
Protocol), and IMAP (Internet Mail Access Protocol)
have been ported to TPF to provide the ability to
receive and send mail to virtually any system.
Customer uses of the Mail Server can include; internal
mail systems between an enterprise and its employees
or business partners (e.g. Travel Agents, Suppliers),
as a Relay system or backbone for a large mail serving
operation, and as a means for TPF applications to send
notifications that can be read by 'off-the-shelf'
products. With a design point of 250 million + users,
utilizing TPF as a high end mail server eliminates
worry about performance and peak system
loads.
