Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP®)
Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) Connect for TPF, a standard protocol, allows object based computer applications to work seamlessly together over a TCP/IP network. Because the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), which IIOP is a component of, and IIOP are platform independent, CORBA and IIOP operate on many different types of hardware and software and are therefore an ideal solution for the Internet.
In an IIOP environment with CORBA compliant applications, programmers can invoke any object that they need and IIOP handles the communication transparently. This also allows a programmer to invoke or define an object or operation that is on a system across the network, thus extending the programming environment with a common protocol and transparent communication.
IIOP Connect for TPF is a shared library that TPF applications can use to communicate, adhering to using CORBA compliant messaging, without requiring access to a full implementation of the CORBA specification.
