32-Way Loosely Coupled Processor Support
COMMENTS ON PROBLEM
___________________
Currently, TPF supports a maximum of 8 processors loosely
coupled in a single TPF complex. TPF's largest customers will
soon require more processing power in a single TPF complex than
can be provided by loosely coupling together eight of IBM's
fastest processors.
SOLUTION
________
32-Way Loosely Coupled Processor Support provides the final
changes necessary to allow TPF to support up to 32 loosely
coupled processors in a single TPF complex. In addition to
changing the functional areas to support up to 32 loosely
coupled processors, migration and fallback support has been pro-
vided for several functional areas, allowing customers to
migrate to 32-Way Loosely Coupled Processor Support without a
complex-wide outage.
The following functional areas and constraints are addressed:
1. Multi-Processor Interconnect Facility (MPIF)
The hardware definition records contained in the #CB8HD fixed
file record type have been moved to #HDREC, a new fixed file
record type. This allows for the expansion of processor unique
information within the record.
The path definition records contained in the #PDREC fixed file
record type have been split between two record types. The
processor shared information will stay within #PDREC, and the
processor unique information is moved to #PDREU, a new processor
unique fixed file record type.
2. Internet Daemon (INETD)
The INETD uses the Internet daemon configuration file (IDCF) to
hold configuration information. The IDCF has been expanded to
support additional processors by moving the information from the
#IBMM4 fixed file record type to #IDCF1, a new fixed file record
type.
3. Routing Control Application Table Initialization (RCIT)

SNA Dynamic Resource Allocation
The above support contains processors bit masks to record the
status of individual processors. All of these bit masks are
expanded to support up to 32 processors.
4. Keypoint I (CTKI)
The subsystem state table contained in CTKI has been moved to
its own fixed file record type, #CN1ST, allowing CTKI to support
up to 32 processors.
5. Keypoint C (CTKC)
CTKC maintains a table of terminals used in the TPF complex.
The table has been expanded to room for up to 32 processors.
6. Super Global Storage Allocator (GOA) Records
Currently, the Super GOA records support up to 12 processors
with 16 i-streams each. New Super GOA fields have been provided
that support up to 32 processors with 16 i-streams each.
7. General File and General Data Set (GDS) Support
General File control records have been moved from the #IBMM4
fixed file record type to the #IBMMP4 fixed file record type.
GDS records have been moved from the #DSCRI fixed file record
type to #DSCRU, a new processor unique fixed file record type.
8. Commit and Rollback
Commit and rollback has been extended by increasing the number
of #IBMM4 fixed file records for the control table checkpoint
area, and by adding log fixed file record types (#RLOG9-32) for
processors 9-32.
9. Interprocessor Communications (IPC)
IPC has been changed from using 8-bit processor destination
masks to using lists of processors, and by extending the list
support implemented for the internal event facility (IEF) to
support IPC.
10. Keypoint Support
The keypoint control tables for the #KEYPT, #KBA, and #KSA1-8
have been reformated to support keypoints for up to 32
processors.
The keypoint fallback extent areas have been moved to individual
fixed file record types (#KFBXnnn). This allows keypoints for
new processors to be moved to the old keypoint fallback extent
areas in #KEYPT without losing the previously saved keypoints in
those extents. In addition, TPF supports multiple extents for
the #KEYPT and #KFBXnnn fixed file record types (multiple RAMFIL
statements can be used for these record types along with the
PRIOR parameter). A new keypoint pointer record has been

defined to help map the ordinals for these records across mul-
tiple extents.
11. Recoup
To support 32 processors, the number of FC33 records has been
increased, and the @@BUSED32 field is created. In addition, the
#SONRPE processor unique fixed file record type has been
replaced by the #SONRPE0-7 processor shared fixed file record
types.
12. Channel Usage Table
The channel usage table has been moved from the #IBMM4 fixed
file record type to the #IBMMP4 processor unique fixed file
record type.

========================
For TPFDF customers, TPFDF APAR PQ50700 is a co-requisite
APAR and must be applied concurrently with this APAR.

Functional Changes

The ZMIGR command has been implemented to convert and fallback
Keypoint C, Keypoint I, keypoint control records, the processor
shared MPIF path definition records, and recoup records. The
The ZMIGR command also provides the status of each of the above
areas (converted or not converted) and the status of each
processor in the complex (migrated, unmigrated, or inactive).
The ALL parameter has been added to the ZMPIF PDR INIT command.
ZMPIF PDR INIT has been changed to initialize only the path
definition records of the processor on which the command was
entered. To initialize the path definition records of all
processors, enter the ZMPIF PDR INIT ALL command.

SIP Changes
-----------
With 32-Way Loosely Coupled (32-Way) Processor Support, the
formats of Keypoint I (CTKI) and Keypoint C (CTKC) have been
changed to support up to 32 processors. The previous formats
were limited to 8 processors. CTKI and CTKC are both generated
by SIP. New parameters have been added to the CONFIG and CRASTB
macros to allow customers to specify which formats of CTKI and
CTKC are generated.
CTKI32LC is a required parameter on the CONFIG macro. Specify
CTKI32LC=NO to generate CTKI in the old format and CTKI32LC=YES
to generate CTKI in the new 32-processor format. CTKI32LC=NO
should be specified in the Stage I deck while the online copy
of CTKI is in the old format. CTKI32LC=YES should be specified
after the online copy of CTKI is converted to 32-way loosely
coupled format.
CTKC32LC is a required parameter on the CRASTB macro. Specify
CTKC32LC=NO to generate CTKC in the old format and CTKC32LC=YES
to generate CTKC in the new 32-processor format. CTKC32LC=NO
should be specified in the Stage I deck while the online copy
of CTKC is in the old format. CTKC32LC=YES should be specified
after the online copy of CTKC is converted to 32-way loosely
coupled format.

The ROCRS16 is also added to the CRASTB macro. If using 3270
console support, up to 32 subchannel addresses can be specified
using the ROCRS parameter. However, due to assembler restrictions,
3215 support is split between the ROCRS and ROCRS16 parameters.
ROCRS definitions for processors 0-15 are specified using the
ROCRS parameter. ROCRS definitions for processors 16-31 are
specified using the ROCRS16 parameter.

Changes to the Loading Process
------------------------------
The Super Global Storage Allocator (GOA) records currently
support up to 12 processors with each processor having up to
16 i-streams. To support 32 processors with 16 i-streams each,
new Super GOA fields have been defined.
While in coexistence mode with 8 or fewer processors defined,
the Super GOA records are used in their current format. To
change the format of the Super GOA records to the new format, a
new PILOTA tape must be loaded after all processors have been
migrated to 32-Way Loosely Coupled Processor Support.
To load a new PILOTA tape, the following steps should be done:
1. Update the Data Record Information Library (DRIL) with
the new fields (GO2DSP, GO2CEC, GO2CID, GO2IID, and GO2IS).
See the GO1GO data macro for more information on these
fields.
2. Edit the input to the PILOTA tape, and replace all
occurrences of GO1DSP, GO1CID, GO1IID, and GO1IS with
GO2DSP, GO2CID, GO2IID, and GO2IS. For all Super GOA
records where GO2DSP is used, turn on the second bit (X'40')
in the GO1CHN field. This lets the online global load know
that the GO2 set of fields is being used. Note that the GO1
set of fields (GO1DSP, GO1CID, GO1IID, and GO1IS) and the
GO2 set of fields (GO2DSP, GO2CID, GO2IID, and GO2IS) are
mutually exclusive and should not be defined in the same PILOTA
input.
3. Use the System Test Compiler (STC) to create a PILOTA tape
and use the ZSLDR command to load the tape to the system.

Co-existent Configurations
--------------------------
A processor IPLed from an image containing 32-Way Loosely Coupled
(32-Way LC) Processor Support can coexist indefinitely in a TPF
complex with processors that have been IPLed from images that
do not contain 32-Way LC Processor Support.
If you wish to IPL a processor from an image that does not
contain 32-Way LC Processor Support that was previously running
32-Way LC Processor Support, you must first deactivate
the processor using the ZPSMS command. This resets the
migration flag for that processor. Failure to do so will cause
IPC to send messages to the processor in 32-way format.
Once the ZMIGR command has been issued with the CONVERT parameter
or a new PILOT tape has been loaded using the new GO2 Super GOA
fields, any processor joining the complex must be IPLed from an
image containing 32-Way LC Processor Support.
Changes to Application Programming Interface
--------------------------------------------
All customer applications must be investigated and changed
for the following areas:
1. Interprocessor Communications (IPC)
a. Applications written in C/C++ language that do not require
the processor list facility should not require migration.
However, examine applications that reference
SIPCC_PARM_MAX, defined in sysapi.h because the value
of this define has been increased from 11 to 12 to
accommodate the new sipcc_list_ptr parameter for the
sipcc function.
b. All references to the label SI3DEST must be changed to
SI3DSTN. This field has been renamed so that assembler
and compiler errors will be generated to help identify
all applications that use the sipcc interface.
c. All sipcc applications should be fully investigated for
processor bit mask usage and changed as appropriate to
use processor ordinal numbers and processor counts. The
sipcc interface allows the specification of processor
destinations to be a single processor, a broadcast to
all processors, or a list of specific processors. To
send to a list of specific processors, the list parameter
must be used to provide SIPCC with a list of destination
processors. Use tpf_genlc (C/C++) and GENLC (assembler)
to generate processor lists.
2. Processor ID Table (PI1DT)
a. PI1GPA (active processor bit mask) has been replaced
by PI1APC (active processor count).
b. PI1GPS and PI1SND (SIPCC sender bit masks) have been
deleted.
c. Section 2 of the PI1DT has been expanded from 8 to 32
processors.
3. Keypoint I
a. The IC0PRC table has been expanded from 8 to 32
processors.
b. The subsystem status table (IC0SST) has been moved
to the fixed file record type #CN1ST. All code that
references the IC0SST must be modified to call segment
CYYF to find and file IC0SST.
Recommended Migration Scenario
------------------------------
Follow these guidelines to apply this support to an existing TPF 4.1
system. Refer to TPF Migration Guide: Program Update Tapes for more
information.
1. Ensure that no deactivation or reallocation processing is
running on the TPF 4.1 system in which you are installing
program update tape (PUT) 15.
2. Install PUT 15, which contains APAR PJ27785 for 32-Way Loosely
Coupled (32-Way LC) Processor Support, on your TPF 4.1 system.

3. Update the Data Record Information Library (DRIL) with
the new Super Global Storage Allocator (GOA) fields
(GO2DSP, GO2CEC, GO2CID, GO2IID, and GO2IS). See the
GO1GO data macro for more information on these fields.
4. Modify all customer code to accommodate changes by 32-Way
LC Processor Support. See "Changes to Application Programming
Interface" above and TPF Migration Guide: Program Update Tapes
for more information.
5. Define new record types in all SIP Stage I decks as follows:

8. In the SIP Stage I deck, add the CTKC32LC=NO parameter to
the CRASTB macro. This will cause SIP Stage I to generate
Keypoint C in the old format.
9. Run the FACE Table Generator (FCTBG) to create a new FACE Table.
10. Assemble the SIP Stage I deck to create a SIP Stage II deck.
11. Run the system allocator program (SALO) using the IBMPAL and
SPPGML additions for the newly created segments to create an
updated program allocation table (PAT) and system allocator
table (SAL).
12. Run SIP Stage II.
13. Load 32-Way LC Processor Support to an image in the complex,
and IPL a processor using that image. During the first IPL of
the first processor from an image containing 32-Way LC Processor
Support, the TPF system will display messages IPLA0050E and
IPLA0055W for the basic subsystem (BSS) and IPLB0018W and
IPLB0086E for all other subsystems. These messages are displayed
because the new keypoint pointer records have not been initialized
on the subsystems. Because this is an expected occurrence and
temporary pointer records will be used, continue the IPL.
During restart, message CVZ60001A is displayed for each
subsystem being IPLed. This message will request the operator
to enter the ZKPTR command. Enter the ZKPTR REPLACE command on
each subsystem to initialize the keypoint pointer records. This
must be done only once on the first processor to be IPLed
with 32-Way LC Processor Support.
14. IPL other processors using images containing 32-Way LC
Processor Support. During coexistence mode when some processors
have been IPLed from an image containing 32-Way LC Support and
other processors have not, the following restrictions must be
observed:
a. Before running recoup, you must enter the ZMIGR command
with the RECOUP and INIT parameters specified to initialize
the new FC33 records. In addition, all processors
participating in the recoup must be at the same PUT level.

b. Restrict your use of the following commands. Any updates
made on back-level processors are not recognized on
processors with 32-Way LC Processor Support and must be
entered again when that processor is IPLed from an image
containing 32-Way LC Processor Support.

c. Before IPLing a processor on a different image, first
deactivate the processor using the ZPSMS command. This
will reset the migrated status indicator for that processor.
15. Once all processors have been IPLed from images containing
32-Way LC Processor Support, do the following. Note that once
the ZMIGR command has been issued with the CONVERT parameter,
records have been converted to 32-Way format. At that point,
processors can not be IPLed from images that do not contain
32-Way Loosely Coupled Processor Support without first converting
all records back to pre-32-Way format by issuing the ZMIGR command
with the FALLBACK parameter.
a. Confirm that any necessary modifications have been made
to your applications and that the applications have been
reassembled, recompiled, and link-edited.
b. Enter the ZMIGR command with the PROCESSOR and STATUS
parameters specified to confirm that all processors
have been migrated to 32-Way Loosely Coupled Processor
Support.
c. If not done previously, enter the ZMIGR command with the
RECOUP and INIT parameters, and then migrate the Recoup
records by entering the ZMIGR command with the Recoup and
CONVERT parameters. This command must be entered once on
each subsystem.
d. Migrate Keypoint I (CTKI) by entering the ZMIGR command
with the CTKI and CONVERT parameters. This command must be
entered on the BSS only. After CTKI is converted, the
CTKI32LC parameter in the SIP Stage I deck should be set to
YES so that all future versions of CTKI will be generated in
the new format.
e. Migrate Keypoint C (CTKC) by entering the ZMIGR command
with the CTKC and CONVERT parameters. This command must be
entered on the BSS only. After CTKC is converted, the
CTKC32LC parameter in the SIP Stage I deck should be set to
YES so that all future versions of CTKC will be generated in
the new format.
f. Migrate the keypoint control records by entering the ZMIGR
command with the KEYPOINT and CONVERT parameters. This
command must be entered once on each subsystem.
g. Migrate the MPIF records by entering the ZMIGR command
with the MPIF and CONVERT parameters. This command must be
entered on the BSS only.
h. All other areas are automatically migrated or initialized by
the system during restart or cycle to NORM state. See TPF
Migration Guide: Program Update Tapes for more information.
16. Once all data structures have been converted to 32-Way format
and there is no need to fallback, the following changes can
be made to the SIP Stage I deck. Note that fallback is no
longer possible after these changes are made.
a. Fixed file record types #CB8HD, #DSCRI, and #SONRPE
may be deleted.
b. The number of ordinals assigned to fixed file record type
#PDREC may be reduced to 4.
c. The NFBACK parameter on the RAM macro may be set to 0 and a
new CTKX loaded. This will cause time-initiated keypointing
to copy keypoints to the fallback extents in #KFBXnnn. The
system will no longer use the keypoint fallback extents
previously defined in #KEYPT. Note that when NFBACK is set
to zero, the number of keypoint fallback extents used depends
on the number of #KFBXnnn fixed file record types defined.
17. Processors 9-32 may now be defined and added to the TPF
complex. Once more than eight processors are defined in the
complex, fallback is no longer possible.
