TPF DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT
IBM, Poughkeepsie NY
SUBJECT: APAR NUMBER: PJ27722
ABSTRACT OF PROBLEM
___________________
Enhancements for the TPF merge tool version 1.0 ( PJ27381).
COMMENTS ON PROBLEM
___________________
The enhancements to the TPF merge tool increases the usability
of the tool for merging files and directories. These enhance-
ments offer additional flexibility in using the TPF merge tool,
with the ability to edit the full difference, save the merge
options and window properties, provide log file support, trans-
verse sub-directories, specify multiple file filters and driving
directory.
SOLUTION
________
The following enhancements are included in the TPF merge tool
version 1.2:
o Full Difference Editing: This feature allows you to edit the
entire difference rather than just a single line. You can
also add lines to and delete lines from the difference block.
o Save Merge Options: When you click the OK button in the
Merge Options dialog, you are now prompted to save the
current option settings as the default. These default option
settings are used the next time that you start the program.
o Save Merge Results Window Properties: If you modify the
appearance of the Merge Results window by moving the vertical
bar separator between the input and output area, resizing
the window, or moving the window, these properties are now saved
as the default and used the next time the window is displayed.
These properties are also saved across program calls.
o Page Setup: The Page setup menu item has been added to the
File menu and a Setup button has been added to the Print dialog.
o Log File: You can now specify the name and location of a log
file. The log file contains a list of the parameters and options
that are used each time you merge selected files or directories.
The log file also contains a list of all unmatched files, and a
summary of conflict resolution and differences for each file
merged if Automerge is selected.
o Multiple File Filters: You can specify multiple file filters
separated by spaces.
o Directory Traversal: You can specify that you want to search
all subdirectories in a specific directory when locating files
to be merged.
o Driving Directory: You can specify that you want one of the
three input directories to control the reporting and copying of
unmatched files. Only files that exist in the specified
directory are used to locate matching files in the other directories.
o Minimizing the Merge Dialog: The Merge dialog is now located
on the task bar and you can minimize it.
o Directories as Part of the File Name: You can now specify
that you want the file name to include as many as nine levels
of directories. This function gives you the ability to distinguish
between files with the same name that are not really the same
file.
