Help for the TPF APAR Tool

The TPF APAR Tool is a dynamic way to access TPF maintenance. Using its filtering and selection features you can view and download more relevant lists of APARs.

To get started quickly
  1. Select:
    1. one or more PUT levels
    2. one or more Severity levels and
    3. one or more Closing Codes
  2. Then click View APAR List.

You may select that only Critical APARs or HIPER APARs be displayed.

When you start the APAR Tool, you are presented with a number of options. These options define a set of criteria for APARs you want to see. You may select:

  • One or more PUT levels, Severity levels, and Closing Codes. You may specify you only want APARs indicated as Critical or HIPER. Select these options and click View APAR List.

  • A range of one or more APARs available on the web. Enter a range of APARs and click Display APAR Range. This method cuts across PUTs, severity levels, and closing codes.

  • A range of dates that APARs were opened or made available on the web. Select a beginning month and year, and select an ending month and year, then click Display Date Range. This method cuts across PUTs, severity levels, and closing codes.

Any of these alternatives can be limited to particular functional areas.

Choose Button

Selecting the Choose button under Functional Areas enables you to restrict the APARs looked at by their functional area, the part of the TPF system they belong to. The default is All functional area codes. This is usually set during intialization of the browser. Sometimes initialization does not complete. In this case the message "No FAs Selected" appears (in red). When no functional areas are selected, no APARs will display. If the "No FAs Selected" message is displayed, simply click Refresh on your browser to reinitialize the web page, or click on Choose to select some specific functional areas.

You may specify that only source, binary, or listing files be downloaded, depending on the ones that are available for a given APAR. Not every type of file is available for every APAR. If you attempt to download types of files that do not exist for certain APARs, nothing will happen for those APARs. For example, if you specify that Binary files only are to be downloaded and you download APAR PJ29690, no files will be downloaded for PJ29690 because it only has a source file associated with it.

Saving the State keeps your settings so that when you refresh the browser or state another session you will return to the same APAR display. Normally with Internet Explorer the browser will automatically return to the old APAR display. Normally with Netscape/Mozilla the browser will not return automatically. To display the settings click on View APAR List, Display APAR Range, or Display Date Range, as appropriate.

You can select these topics individually or click to them one after the other.
