 | IBM CICS® Transaction Server for z/OS™ Version 2.3 builds on the key capabilities and benefits delivered in CICS Transaction Server Version 2.2. CICS Transaction Server V2.3 delivers: CICS support for Java has been dramatically enhanced CICS support for Java. CICS exploits a completely new JVM specially designed to optimize performance for CICS transactions. Support for Java Enterprise APIs such as JDBC, JNDI, and RMI has been significantly enhanced. CICS applications can now use the Common Connector Interface (CCI) client API to allow portability between CICS and non-CICS servers of Java application classes that invoke CICS programs. CICS supports session beans at EJB 1.1 specification level. CICS uses the common WebSphere container which helps ensure binary compatibility for enterprise beans deployed on any of the WebSphere application servers and on CICS TS V2. Enterprise beans running in CICS can be developed using any application development tool that supports EJB 1.1. The enterprise beans are deployed using the standard WebSphere Assembly Toolkit. Enterprise beans running on CICS can use all the Java capabilities described above as well as JCICS classes to exploit CICS functionality. A session bean can also perform a JCICS link to an existing CICS transaction in COBOL or any other supported language. Supplied in this release is the Assembly Tool (ATk). This is a workstation-based tool running on Windows NT which is used to build JAR files ready for the run-time environment, and is required in order to prepare enterprise beans for deployment into the CICS TS V2.3 system. CICSPlex SM provides dynamic workload balancing of enterprise beans executing in CICS. All existing facilities provided by CICSPlex SM in this context, such as workload separation and application availability, are provided for enterprise bean invocation. Provides an improved level of support for the use of workstation-based and host-based debuggers for isolating and fixing bugs, and for testing applications: CICS provides tools for the creation and management of debugging profiles, which contain information used to select programs for debugging. When used with workstation-based debugging tools, CICS provides improved integration of the debugging task for mixed language applications such as Java and COBOL Allows secure interoperability with other systems that use SSL with client authentication and the Asserted Identity protocol, including between CICS TS V2.3 and WebSphere Application Server. SOAP for CICS feature provides a mechanism that allows CICS applications to be accessed as Web Services within a SOA. Transport are provided over HTML and WebSphere MQ. CICSPlex System Manager reduces complexity of CICS systems. It integrates all the major CICS management functions into one interface , the Web User Interface. It has been further enhanced by the ability to cancel suspended or looping tasks and dynamic routing of 3270 bridge enhancements. CICS continues to improve the CICS/DB2 support with support for DB2 Restart Light which improves DB2 availability for CICS applications and provides better recovery after LPAR failure.
