MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS

Overview

IBM MQSeries® Integrator Agent for CICS® Transaction Server (MQSI Agent for CICS) delivers adapters that integrate business applications across enterprise information systems.  MQSI Agent for CICS enables middle-tier applications to access existing back-end applications through IBM WebSphere® MQ and CICS environments and other connected systems without changing applications or business processes.

MQSI Agent for CICS consists of the following  two components:

  • MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Adapter Builder for Windows NT®
  • MQSeries Integrator Agent for CICS Server Run Time for CICS Transaction Server for OS/390®

MQSI Agent for CICS Adapter Builder
The MQSI Agent for CICS Adapter Builder runs on the Windows NT 4.0 platform. It has an intuitive visual interface based on MQSeries Integrator, version 2.0 that enables one to model an adapter to implement a business transaction process.  The adapters are intelligent and use a standard interface that remains stable even as applications change.  When the developer finishes building the adapter, he or she uses the Adapter Builder to deploy the adapter to an OS/390 server, where it resides as a CICS application. Once deployed on the OS/390 server, the adapter behaves as modeled in the builder component by processing requests from controlling applications

MQSI Agent for CICS Server Run Time
MQSI  Agent for CICS Server Run Time runs under CICS Transaction Server for OS/390 V1R3 or V2R2 as a CICS application on an OS/390 server. The Server Run Time uses CICS Business Transaction Services (BTS) to manage the interrelationship, commit scope, recovery, and restart of the actions that make up a business transaction.

  Benefits

MQSI Agent for CICS Transaction Server provides the following benefits:

  • Enables enterprise information systems to be modernized with well-defined interfaces
  • Provides generic support for adapters that integrate with CICS and IMS applications and an interface to WebSphere MQ messaging
  • Takes advantage of CICS business transaction services to control the execution of complex business transactions
  • Exploits CICS Transaction Server for OS/390 infrastructure to provide integration solutions with high performance, scalability and availability
  • Enables effective reuse and easier integration of existing assets, such as 3270 applications
  • Helps reduce the risk, complexity and cost of creating point-to-point integration and decreases the number of network flows between middle-tier and back-end servers
  • Provides a migration path from Message Driven Processor (MDp) to IBM strategic business integration products
