Guideline C14- Allowing the Customization of Name Formats

Guideline C14

Allow the user to select the name format to accommodate personal name variations.

Requiring a first name and a family name may not accommodate the user who only has one name, such as in Indonesia. Some cultures state the family name first followed by the given name or names, such as in Korea. Many countries create double family names by combining the family names of the parents creating rather long names. These names may be joined by a dash "-" or simply a space character. Cultural conventions for sorting names can also vary. Some countries sort by given name, some by family name, and some by a particular part of a doubled family name.
