Q: How many languages does Rational Rapid Developer support?
A: Rational Rapid Developer supports English in design mode but it can construct web applications in any language.

Q: Does rational Rapid Developer support bidi?
A: Rational Rapid Developer rovides the ability to specify the attribute dir=rtl for a given web page or for any control that is on a page. You can also mix controls that are specified with the bidi attribute with controls that are not right to left.

Q: How do you translate strings with Rational Rapid Developer?
A: Rational Rapid Developer provides you with the ability to translate strings in three different ways:

  1. In the page authoring editor , Page Architect, you can toggle to the appropriate language and type directly into the field.
  2. You can also use the Translation Maintenance dialog to view all strings for a given page in a spreadsheet format. You simply click on the appropriate cell that designates a language for a string and type the translated string into the cell.
  3. Rational Rapid Developer can export files in a number of different formats that enable translators to work in their translation environment and then ship the translated strings back to the product. Once translated, Rational Rapid Developer will import the translated strings and store the translations within the page model.

Q: How does Rational Rapid Developer externalize application strings in the constructed application?
A: Because Rational Rapid Developer constructs the web application code, you do not have to worry about externalizing strings in your application. Once you specify which strings need to be tranlsted, Rational Rapid Developer will construct internationalized code including the resource bundles required for your application. There is no need to maintain resource bundles directly, you specify what you want in the application models and the system does the rest
