Managed Artifacts

Aside from a world class standardized methodology and tremendous service professionals, IBM has a large collection of assets for all domains (Master Data Management, SOA, Information as a Service, Data Integration, Federation, Business Intelligence, Data Governance and many others). For each of these domains, we have intellectual capital in the form of Managed Artifacts. These materials can be used to accelerate success in all facets of an initiative - from discovery and inception right through to deployment. They are derived from the harvesting of assets from continuously successful initiatives at our customers.

Examples of Managed Artifacts are:

• Guiding Principles: Guiding principles provide overarching guidance for development of the technical architecture for a solution. A good guiding principle will not be outdated by changing technology and has objective reasons for advancing it instead of alternatives.
• Reference architectures can be leveraged by IT Architects as input to help design their solution. They provide a framework for scope identification, gap assessment, and risk assessment and incorporate the knowledge, best practices and patterns discovered through other similar solutions.
• Patterns: Patterns are used to simplify the building of products by providing repeatable solutions. Patterns offer reuse at higher levels than lines of code or individual classes, but lower than an entire program. They are important for communication and education, of key development concepts.
• Deployment Scenarios: Deployment Scenarios are standardized patterns of deployment for various products and solutions in order to guarantee that each customer deployment is as successful as possible.
• Toolkits: The IP&S Center of Excellence manages a portfolio of targeted components to address very specialized needs such as grid deployment, data masking and multi-language data cleansing rule construction. These toolkits are available for you to leverage to bring your solution to fruition.
