Rational software - Software and system development
Features and benefits

IBM® Rational® Data Architect provides these powerful features:

Robust Data Modeling enables architects and designers to easily create logical, physical and domain models. Physical data models can be created from scratch, from logical models using transformation or from the database using reverse engineering.

Mapping helps uncover and define relationships across data sources and targets. Understanding the relationships between data assets is critical for enterprises with multiple data sources. Rational Data Architect's unique mapping capability provides mapping discovery to help identify possible relationships and visualization (diagrams) to aid in the understanding of relationships.

Model and Database Compliance Analysis runs against models or actual databases and checks for conformance to enterprise standards, norms and rules. This enables users to not only analyze, but to advise and enforce enterprise standards.

Information Integration Design simplifies the design, creation and deployment of federated databases. Rational Data Architect enables IBM WebSphere Federation Server customers to easily access, visualize, generate and deploy IBM WebSphere Federation Server federated databases.

Compare and Synchronize enables architects to compare models to models, models to databases and databases to databases and subsequently update existing databases to ensure consistency. For example, a user can compare a model with the database, decide what they want to update, optionally export a differentiation script, create and update DDL and execute the DDL on the database server.

Impact Analysis helps identify the impact of a change before the change is actually implemented. Impact analysis will list the dependencies on a specific element. The results are visually represented and also displayed in report format for easy viewing.

Database Development capabilities for the DB2 enable users to generate, edit, import, test, debug, deploy, compare, export and batch deploy SQL code including stored procedures and user defined functions. Model, build, test and deploy DB2 databases all from a single interface.

Life Cycle Integration helps users integrate with other facets of the lifecycle. Direct integration with IBM Rational Software Architect allows architects to work together with transformations between the software architecture model and the data model. Requirements stored and managed in IBM Rational RequisitePro® can be accessed, associated to corresponding modeling elements, and synchronized with user-selectable rules. Modeling files can be managed by IBM Rational ClearCase® or CVS providing seamless versioning, branching, and synchronization of changes providing full support for the team environment.
