IMS SOA Integration Suite

IMS MFS Web Solutions, IMS MFS SOA support and IMS MFS Web enablement, provide support for reusing existing MFS-based IMS business logic.

IMS MFS SOA support

IMS™ Message Format Service service-oriented architecture (MFS SOA) support is the next generation of MFS support, and is introduced in the IBM® Rational® Application Developer for WebSphere® Software (RAD) V7.5 open beta. Using IMS MFS SOA support, you can reuse existing MFS-based IMS business logic as Web services, Web pages, or Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs). IMS MFS SOA support is integrated with the J2C tools wizard in Rational Application Developer V7.5. You can use this wizard to transform existing MFS-based IMS applications to J2C Java™ beans and J2C Java data binding classes. After you create a J2C Java bean, you can create Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) resources, such as JavaService Pages (JSPs), EJBs, or Web services, to package the functions of the generated J2C Java bean.

IMS MFS SOA support uses the IMS TM Resource Adapter to communicate with IMS Connect and IMS, on both Windows and z/OS®.

IMS MFS SOA support is available with the IMS TM Resource Adapter (previously known as the IMS Connector for Java), which is packaged with the RAD V7.5 open beta and is also available as a download from the IMS TM Resource Adapter Web site.

IMS MFS SOA support is supported in the following WebSphere Application Server V6.1 runtime environments:

WebSphere Application Server V6.1
Windowsyes
z/OSyes

Important: MFS Web services that are generated by IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition are not supported by IMS MFS SOA support due to framework differences. For information about migrating to IMS MFS SOA support from earlier versions, contact IBM.

IMS MFS Web enablement

IMS MFS Web enablement allows you to re-use existing MFS-based IMS business logic from the Web. In addition, the MFS XML utility, a stand alone utility, provides the MFS Importer with existing source files that allow the MFS Importer to generate metadata. The runtime support, running on WebSphere Application Server, provides a servlet to dynamically render MFS-based Web pages on browsers using cascading stylesheets, and an adapter that communicates with host IMS (conversational) applications via the J2EE-compliant IMS TM Resource Adapter. Sample stylesheets are provided and can be customized to fit your business needs.

Upon request, we will provide an accessible version of the MFS documentation.

MFS Web Enablement supports the following runtime environment:

WebSphere Application Server V5.1WebSphere Application Server V6.0
Windowsyesyes
AIXyesyes
z/OSnoyes

Compressed zip files and samples are available on the MFS Web Enablement download page.

IMS MFS Web services

IMS MFS Web services support allows you to re-use existing MFS-based IMS business logic as Web services in WebSphere. The MFS Web services tooling component, also known as the MFS Importer, is part of the IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition. The corresponding runtime component of MFS Web services is included in IMS TM Resource Adapter (also known as IMS Connector for Java), on both distributed and zOS platforms. See the IMS TM Resource Adapter for the runtime download.

MFS Web services supports the following runtime environment:

WebSphere Application Server V5.1 and V6.0
Windowsyes
AIXyes
z/OSyes

MFS Web Services Invocation Framework based Web Services is supported in the following IMS TM Resource Adapter (also known as IMS Connector for Java) releases:

  • IMS TM Resource Adapter V9.1.0.1.x
  • IMS TM Resource Adapter V2.2.x

Update: Creating a Web client to execute a SOAP proxy for an MFS-based IMS enterprise service will not process successfully due to SOAP runtime incompatibilities on a stand-alone WebSphere Application Server. Consult the MFS samples documentation for using EJB proxy instead.
