IMS Recovery Expert for z/OS

IMS Recovery Expert is a new addition to the IMS Tools product portfolio that provides features to ensure that your IMS database environment is recoverable. The tool inspects information that is stored in the RECON data sets, system catalogs, and in the repositories of IBM IMS Tools Knowledge Base and detects problems that can affect database recovery.

• A Recovery Point Create feature that allows you to create a recovery point for one or more databases by issuing /DBR or /DBD commands, waiting for the databases to become unallocated, and then restarting them.
• A Recovery Point Identification feature that reads information in the RECON data sets to determine common recovery points for one or more databases.
• A Recovery Assets Verification feature that examines the RECON data sets and generates a list of the recovery assets that are needed in order to recover one or more databases.
• A RECON Clean Up feature that allows you to prepare a set of RECON data sets for your disaster recovery environment by modifying the contents to match your disaster recovery site.
• A Recovery Health Check feature that consists of many different options to check and verify the recoverability of your environment.
• An IMS Command feature that allows you to issue commands in batch to active IMS subsystems and view the output from those commands.

Operational Requirements:

IMS Recovery Expert currently only supports IMS V9. IMS V9 is the minimum level for IMS Recovery Expert as it requires the DBRC API which was made available with IMS V9.

Hardware Requirements:

IMS Recovery Expert operates on any hardware configuration that supports the required versions of IMS.
