 | - Would you like to improve administrative productivity for reorganizing IMS full function and IMS High Availability Large Data Base (HALDB) partitions?
- Is minimizing manual intervention during database reorganization of interest?
- Do you have the infrastructure today to integrate your IMS database reorganization tools and operate them in a single job step?
- Does your current database reorganization process automatically issue the /STA DB command after the reorganization completes?
- Would you like to optimize IMS performance while maintaining availability?
The more you add, update and delete records in your IBM IMS database, the more frequently you must reorganize the database to restore data clustering and distribute free space evenly. Otherwise, performance will suffer. Reorganizing a database can require significant time - and usually involves taking the database offline. Typically, you need to unload the database to tape or DASD and then reload it to restore data clustering. Secondary indexes for the reorganized database must be reorganized or rebuilt. But in today's cost-conscious business climate with its high demand for information access, you simply cannot spare the time and effort. IBM's IMS Parallel Reorganization for z/OS enables you to reorganize the database more quickly and efficiently by running unload, reload, index-building, and image copy tasks concurrently if the database has no logical relationships. Because it automates and simplifies many tasks required to reorganize the IMS database, IMS Parallel Reorganization can help keep your database in top shape without occupying too many of your IT resources. - Provides infrastructure to integrate IBM IMS tools for database reorganization and to operate them in a single job step - IMS High Performance Unload for OS/390, IMS High Performance Load for z/OS Version 2, IMS Index Builder for z/OS, Version 2.3, IMS High Performance Image Copy for z/OS, Version 3.2 or Version 4.1, IMS High Performance Pointer Checker for z/OS, Version 2.2, IMS High Performance Prefix Resolution for z/OS, Version 3, and IBM IMS Library Integrity Utilities for z/OS, Version 1.
- After the reorganization ends successfully, the reorganized database can be made available by issuing IMS /STA database command automatically.
- An unload data set can be used as input, instead of the original database data set. This new option allows you to use IMS Parallel Reorganization as a reload utility with optional functions such as index building and image copying. The shadow space is not needed.
- Executes the image copy task with optional hash pointer checking in a parallel reorganization job step, concurrently with the unload, reload, and index builder steps.
- Executes the prefix resolution/update task in a parallel reorganization job step for a database that has internal logical relationships.
- Supports IMSDALIB DD statement used for specifying the library of dynamic allocation members.
- Provides optional deletion of the old database data sets at successful completion of parallel reorganization.
- Supports parallel reorganization of HISAM and SHISAM databases.
- Supports parallel reorganization of IMS Version 8 and IMS Version 9 HALDB partitions, including HALDB partitions defined in RECON as online reorganization capable (OLRCAP).
Program number: 5655-M28 Utilities Management - Full Function |
IMS Parallel Reorganization for z/OS, Version 3.2 requires: Optional requirements: - For non-partitioned databases for which secondary indexes are to be rebuilt, IMS Index Builder for z/OS, Version 2.3 (program number 5655-E24) with the latest maintenance applied.
- If using the image copy function, IMS High Performance Image Copy for z/OS, Version 3.2, or Version 4.1 (program number 5655-K96).
- If using the hash pointer checking function, IMS High Performance Pointer Checker for z/OS, Version 2.2 (program number 5655-K53).
- To resolve internal logical relationships in the IPR Driver job step, IMS Prefix Resolution for z/OS, Version 3 (program number 5655-M27).
- If using the DBD-decoding function, IBM IMS Library Integrity Utilities for z/OS, Version 1.1 (program number 5655-I42).
