IMS High Performance Pointer Checker for z/OS

Information Management software
Overview

Do your DBAs need help in analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing corrupt databases quickly?

  • What if you could reduce the amount of time your programmers spend on analyzing corrupt databases?
  • Would having reports showing database space utilization and primary and secondary index problems help facilitate system tuning and optimization?
  • Do your need to keep your database downtime to a minimum while detecting and correcting database errors?

IBM IMS HP Pointer Checker helps you efficiently manage many database reorganization activities. When used regularly, IMS HP Pointer Checker helps ensure that your database pointers are error free—alerting you when it's time to perform a database reorganization. To help programmers analyze corrupt databases, IMS HP Pointer Checker provides important information that helps to reduce the time spent handling diagnostics and repairs. These reports reveal errors and their locations within the database—facilitating system tuning and optimization.

When IMS HP Pointer Checker is used in conjunction with IMS Database Repair Facility (a powerful tool that can interactively—and rapidly—repair VSAM- and OSAM-organized IMS databases containing pointer or data errors), their synergy creates a powerful set of productivity aids that helps you detect and correct database errors quickly—and repair them with minimum downtime to your IMS environment. These tools help you maintain the data availability you need to help your business thrive.

Key Features
  • The tool detects and reports space utilization, as well as physical and logical direct pointer problems in HDAM, HIDAM, HISAM, and HALDB, along with secondary index databases.
  • Provides fast, easy detection of database status of: Error descriptions in HASH checking; Exception notification in HD Pointer Checker and Space Monitor; and Monitoring database data set size in Space Monitor.
  • Gives you the ability to set several new thresholds, including available extents, CA and CI splits, and database and data set last extents.
  • Changes a "DB RECORD DISTRIBUTION STATISTICS REPORT" to provide more details of distribution of HDAM and PHDAM root segments and RAP chain lengths (PTF UQ55742).
  • Provides parallel database processing.
