 | - When you’re examining your IMS performance, would having information that lets you know whether changes to the buffer pool configuration would help your performance be of interest?
- Do you need to be able to analyze your current IMS online and batch job buffer pools?
- Would you like to be able to model the impact of database access methods or buffer size changes to your current environment?
- Do you need to gather buffer pool statistics for Fast Path DEDB databases?
- How would you like to be able to find out if databases are not using the most efficient buffer sizes?
Every database buffer pool has different characteristics, so it’s hard to know how changes might affect each one. Often, you have to resort to guesswork, hoping that your tuning activities will not impede I/O rates. IBM IMS Buffer Pool Analyzer provides the information required to determine whether changes to the buffer pool configuration would benefit your current IMS performance. It reviews your buffer pool environment and recommends changes to the number of buffers in each subpool as well as making specific recommendations for the number of buffers for each subpool, and providing the resulting changes in storage usage and reduction in number of database reads. - Determines if adding or subtracting buffers will improve the performance of a selected buffer pool
- Provides the information you need to change subpool configuration by reviewing the databases allocated to each subpool and documenting subpools that include databases with hit rations that are inconsistent
- Performs "what if" scenario analysis, including the impact of creating new buffer pools or changing the buffer size of a database allowing you to visualize the impact of change before it’s too late
- Models the impact of database access methods or buffer size changes
- Provides buffer pool statistics for Fast Path DEDB databases
- Identifies which databases most heavily use each database subpool
- Provides recommendations for changes to the number of buffers allocated to each subpool
- Gives suggestions for review including inconsistent hit ratio databases sharing the same subpool, and databases that do not have the most efficient buffer sizes available
