 | - Are you looking for ultra-high availability utilities that complement your DB2 database and help get the job done easily and efficiently?
- Are you ready to take advantage of high-speed non-disruptive backups at disk-controller level?
- Would you appreciate the ability to recover individual objects from system-level backups with consistency?
- Do you want utilities that support the latest generation of hardware, the IBM zIIP processors, in addition to providing increased database performance?
- Would life be easier if your utilities helped DB2 select better access paths, and offered more path length reductions?
DB2 Utilities Suite for z/OS Version 9.1 delivers full support for the significant enhancements in DB2 9 for z/OS such as universal tablespaces, not-logged table spaces, clone tables, new data types (DECFLOAT, BIGINT, and VARBINARY), new rounding modes, and pureXML© storage. In addition, the DB2 Utilities Suite includes enablement for IBM System z Integrated Information Processors (zIIP). - The BACKUP SYSTEM utility includes new options to assist in the offloading of system-level backups to tape
- Higher availability is provided by the addition of SHRLEVEL CHANGE option to CHECK DATA, CHECK LOB, REBUILD INDEX, REORG LOB, and REPAIR
- The new clone table function gives you the ability to replace a table's contents while still allowing access to the previous version of the data utilizing LOAD REPLACE SHRLEVEL CHANGE functionality
- Significantly higher availability and improved performance are achieved when reorganizing a partitioned tablespace via parallel unload/reload -- the BUILD2 phase has been eliminated
- The COPY utility includes SCOPE PENDING support to improve usability. This utility also allows you to limit operations to partitions and list items that are in copy pending or informational copy pending status.
- The MODIFY RECOVERY utility provides alternative ways remove entries from SYSCOPY and SYSLGRNX.
- The enhanced RECOVER utility allows you to:
- recover to any point in time with consistency
- select which image copy to restore for the recovery
- ensure that the utility uses the most recent image copy prior to the recovery point
- recover at the object level using system-level backups
- The RESTORE SYSTEM utility provides more tape control options, enabling the restore of system-level backups from tape with parallelism
- The RUNSTATS utility collects new statistics, allowing DB2 to select a better access path
- The ability to control image copy output data set attributes is based on the projected size of the data set (for example, tape or disk).
- The UNLOAD utility supports skipping rows that are locked for transaction updates
- Large block interface is now supported for tapes, resulting in a substantial performance improvement
- The COPY, LOAD, REORG, CHECK INDEX, RUNSTATS INDEX and REBUILD INDEX utilities include the most path length (CPU) reductions of any previous release.
- Additional histogram statistics are collected and provided to improve performance for SQL access.
