DB2 Change Accumulation Tool for z/OS

Information Management software
Overview
  • Do you need to facilitate faster recovery of database objects?
  • Do you want to generate image copies without impacting your production system?
  • Are you interested in the time you can save by performing partial recoveries?

IBM DB2 Change Accumulation Tool quickly restores database objects with precision and minimal disruption, setting the scope and specificity of image copy creation through the use of control cards. The tool enables you to seamlessly convert SHRLEVEL Change image copies to SHRLEVEL Reference image copies whenever possible, generating consistent copy without impacting production.

With Version 1.4, you can perform partial recoveries and stop short of the end of the log when writing to the VSAM file, recovering data to a point in time before applications run so that changes don't recur. DB2 Change Accumulation Tool also reads the data sharing members' logs in parallel, thus enhancing performance by reducing the time spent reading the logs one at a time. Mini-logs shift the I/O time spent reading large portions of the log that have no data relevant to non-critical time even when SYSLGRNX is factored in.

Key Features
  • Enables you to select whether changes are written to image copies, VSAM files, or both.
  • Allows you to create one to four image copies per existing image copy, which supports the simultaneous creation of LP/LB and RP/RB image copies.
  • Offers mini-logs that can be applied to an existing image copy or directly to a table space; you can select mini-log or image copy creation.
  • Offers a mini-log control table (MCT) maintenance function that enables you to selectively delete rows from the MCT based on criteria, such as database, table space, index space, partition, date, and age. This prevents the MCT from exceeding an acceptable size and avoids the risk of losing valuable mini-log information.
  • Enables you to create image copies of all catalog tables except for SYSIBM.SYSCOPY. Combines image copies and relevant log records to give you current, accurate data backup.
  • Makes accurate point-in-time recovery of database objects simple and reliable by restoring database objects in a precise manner with minimal disruptions.
  • Allows recovery routines to focus on single objects and previous states.
  • Produces SHRLEVEL REFERENCE image copies without the associated overhead and data locking.
  • Integrates an ISPF user interface with the DB2 Administration Tool Launchpad.
  • Greatly reduces the amount of log records and archive log files needed for processing by supporting SYSLGRNX.
  • Allows you to define allocation parameters such as BUFNO, NCP, and SMS fields.
  • Produces only the required image copies needed for recovery by recognizing that there are no updates to apply—supports all members in a data sharing group (BSDSs, log ranges, log records).
  • Provides improved support of local/remote copy and TO_QUIESCE control card.
  • Enables you to issue DEFINE CLUSTER when underlying VSAM for a table space does not exist
  • Provides ability to skip reading of SYSIBM.SYSLGRNX.
  • Provides support for processing more than 5000 objects (up to 20,000) for image copy and mini log processing.
  • Supports the specification of a second mini log data set which provides benefits in disaster recovery scenarios.
  • Enables you to specify which SYSCOPY rows to consider when finding a starting point for processing.
  • Lets you override the SYSPRINT DD to specify space parameters as needed.
