DB2 Automation Tool for z/OS, V2.2

Information Management software
Overview

IBM DB2 Automation Tool allows database administrators to focus more on database optimization, automates maintenance tasks, and provides statistical history reports for trend analysis and forecasting. DB2 Automation Tool advances the goal of enterprise autonomic computing and offers enhancements to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) environments.

For DB2 users with SAP ERP applications, DB2 Automation Tool provides a set of robust features to help you maintain an efficient and high-performance SAP environment. For example, you can define exception criteria for the execution of utilities against an object or group of objects. Once this definition is done, it is used each time DB2 Automation Tool checks to determine if a utility needs to be executed. Also, from an autonomic standpoint, once profiles are set up, objects are dynamically added or deleted from processing thus saving time in manual procedures and avoiding job creation language (JCL) errors. DB2 Automation Tool supports SAP ERP solution environments by automating the execution of copy, reorg, and other utilities to provide better management of system resources. DB2 Automation Tool is also available as the DB2 Automation Toolkit for z/OS the SAP Edition, which is designed for SAP ERP users who have a zSeries machine dedicated to that environment. SAP customers who do not have a z/Series machine dedicated to SAP can benefit from the same capabilities the Toolkit offers by utilizing DB2 Automation Tool as an individual product. Key Features
  • Continuously and automatically coordinates the execution of DB2 tools, enabling you to realize the full potential of your DB2 system.
  • Provides the automatic execution of DB2 tools against specified objects.
  • Provides manual, periodic or rules-based execution of any number of tools.
  • Provides easy creation of job specifications, and allows the development of job profiles through ISPF panels.
  • Defines a space allocation threshold for image copies that sends the copies to alternate devices, allowing you to specify different locations for each image copy type.
  • Lets you install multiple instances of DB2 Automation Tool on the same subsystem. Because each instance has its own CLIST, DLC repository, and set of plans and packages, you can have a test version of DB2 Automation Tool in the same subsystem as a production version.
  • Provides a capability to specify more than one high-level qualifier for DB2 Automation Tool load libraries, message libraries, panel libraries, and skeleton libraries. This lets you test a PTF or APAR in separate libraries before moving changes into production.
  • Lets you customize the JCL that is generated by DB2 Automation Tool by adding your own user skeletons before or after the utility JCL. You can include JCL, control card, or step end skeletons, as well as skeletons that can be inserted after a REORG TABLESPACE UNLOAD PAUSE.
  • Copies documented skeletons to your own library, where you can customize them for your needs and include them in the generated job.
  • Produces sets of accepted and rejected objects, and configures utility profiles to act upon either set or both sets with new exception processing features. Exception profiles have been modified to allow processing when an objects DB2 status is equal or not equal to a particular status.
  • Lets you select from a wide range of options for JCL generation, giving you greater control over how a job is built. Additional options exist for customizing job breakdowns. In a job profile, you can specify that, before utility execution, spaces are to be started with read-only (RO) access. You can specify to have all plans and packages related to an object rebound as the last step of the job.
