IBM Optimization Service Center for DB2 for z/OS (IBM OSC) is a workstation tool for monitoring and tuning the SQL statements that run on your DB2 9 for z/OS and DB2 for z/OS Version 8 subsystems and data sharing groups. IBM OSC provides a subset of the full suite of powerful features that are available in IBM DB2 Optimization Expert for z/OS. Learn more. The most recent fix pack for IBM OSC includes support for DB2 for z/OS Version 8 subsystems (compatibility and new-function modes), support for DB2 data sharing environments, and an improved user-experience. You can use IBM OSC to identify and analyze problem SQL statements and to perform many tuning tasks:
- Analyze statements and at the workload level - such as all SQL statements from a particular collection, plan, or package
- Learn about statistics that are missing, inaccurate, or out-of-date and automatically generate specialized RUNTSTAS control statements which gather more complete statistics than RUNSTATS ALL jobs
- Quickly "snap the cache" to capture dynamic SQL statements from a DB2 subsystem or data sharing group, and analyze them as a workload, or drill into individual statements for detailed analysis
- Capture runtime information, such as number of executions and CPU time, about statements, including static SQL statements from across a data sharing group
- Proactively monitor the health of your DB2 9 for z/OS SQL workloads during normal processing, and receive problem alerts when a statement exceeds exception thresholds
IBM OSC also provides powerful tuning tools that enable the experienced DBA to drill into SQL statements and perform detailed analysis tasks:
- Format and view SQL statements with statistics annotations and the statement as transformed by the DB2 optimizer
- View EXPLAIN information for individual SQL statements in a graphical format, making relationships between database objects and operations instantly clear
- Graphically create and deploy plan hints
IBM OSC is offered as part of the DB2 Accessories Suite for z/OS, product number 5655-R14.
