The DB2 user group at the UTN-Cordoba university in Argentina, was created early in 2007, after the visit of Raul F. Chong to their campus. This group is rather different than the ones created at other universities because it consists mainly of teachers and PhD students. The group has been exploring DB2, and has jumped at the opportunity of creating an online exam system using PHP and DB2 Express-C. They will use all their academic and professional knowledge to design the system using tools such as Rational Data Architect, Rational Rose or ArgoUML and will then proceed with the coding using PHP. They've been in contact with other students from other universities such as Igor Vitorio Custodio from UFSCar in Brazil to develop this system which will be used as part of the DB2 on Campus program. The requirements of the system have been documented here: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=3000790461&topic=2753

The members of this group are:

The UNAM's DB2 user group was created as part of the IBM DB2 students ambassadors program. Many of its members are also members of PROTECO, a group holding scholarships in computer programming of the Engineering School. All the members have solid knowledge of theory of data bases, SQL and some managers like ORACLE, postgreSQL, MySQL and DB2; additionally the members have some experience giving courses on topics such as operating systems, programming languages and databases. The group's main objective is to deliver, within its university, speeches, courses and workshops showing DB2 and its advantages and new functionalities of its version 9. In order to fulfill this objective, activities have been made, like conferences and free courses, on the use of the tools that DB2 provides. All of these activities have received good feedback within the UNAM, and community membership has been opened to other students.

Another task this group has taken on is the translation of the tutorials for preparation to the DB2 certification exam 730. The UNAM group has not limited itself to spreading the use of DB2 within the university. It is working closely with the UNITEC DB2 user group to deliver these events. The UNAM's DB2 user group has not been in existence that long, however we are proud of the results we have delivered thus far, and this is just the beginning…

The group members are:
Carlos González Zarco (President)

The UPIICSA DB2 User Group, which we call UPIICSADB2 was established on April 19th, 2007 in Mexico city.

We are a group of students and teachers with a desire to promote IBM's leading data server, DB2; and to teach courses and workshops about it to gain valuable skills in the market place. Our goal is to become the largest and strongest IBM DB2 community in Mexico and around the world.

Though the group is fairly new, we have been able to attract almost 92 members to the community, and we have started another stage to further expand the community to other universities in Mexico.

Our plans for the future are: Offer courses and workshops to prepare for the DB2 certification Exam 730, promote of DB2 9 and other software of IBM, provide technical support through our forum, and grow the DB2 community in other universities.

Our members are:

Alejandro Salas Arteaga (President, webmaster, and forum moderator);
Héctor Miguel Hernández Neri (Marketing);
Jesús Ricardo Trejo Arteaga, (Marketing, moderator);
Laura Medellín Ruíz (Marketing)

The DB2 User Group at the UNITEC in Mexico City was created on February 17th, 2007. The group, led by its president Sara Perez, has quickly grown in size and popularity in their university, and has contributed significantly to the community with the translation of several documents from English to Spanish. You can visit their web site (In Spanish) at this URL: http://www.db2mexico.com/db2/

The group is very organized: It has an elected president, vice-president, and secretary. In addition, it has several teams in charge of different areas such as the Tutorials team, in charge of translating all the documents related to the DB2 certification Exam 730; the Technical support team in charge of providing DB2 technical support, the SQL team in charge of helping the rest of the community with SQL related problems; the Forum team in charge of managing the internal university forum; and lastly, the Web Master team in charge of creating the web page for the community.

The current plans of the group include organizing DB2 Certification exam preparation courses, and to write the exams prior to the second visit of Raul F. Chong to Mexico later this year in June 2007. In addition, the group is planning to expand their structure model to other universities.

The group lead members are:
Sara Perez Arroyo (President), Miguel Garcia Trujillo (IBM Mentor), Rubén Corral (Vice President), Claudia Nanyeli Martinez (Secretary), Zahui Bazan (Web Master), Rodrigo Perez (Tutorials team lead), Vladymir Gonzalez (Technical Support team lead), Alan Corsa (SQL team lead), Luis Murillo (Forum team lead)
