Windows clienteClientAdministrative client

The Windows® Client is the desktop client for high-volume, high-performance applications. It fully exploits the client-server architecture with out-of-the-box capabilities for production-level document applications.

The Windows client for Content Manager for Multiplatforms supports:
  • Windows 98, Windows NT® 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium, and Windows XP
  • ODMA
  • XML/HTML to manage structured documents and web content

The application development toolkit supports:
  • Visual and non-visual Java™ beans
  • C++ programming interfaces
  • extensive on-line assistance

Business application integration is supported with:
  • OLE methods control the client from external applications.
  • Application.QueryPrivilege method allows the external application to determine the currently logged on user's privileges to disable prohibited choices.
  • Item.AddAnnotationPart method allows the external application to copy one document to another.
  • Application.PrintSetup method allows the external application to modify the default printing behavior for the client -- to control paper size, orientation, and the number of copies.
  • Application.SetPrintRect, Application.ExtendedPrintSetup, and PrintItem methods enhance the OLE print controls.

Document routing and advanced workflow are supported:
  • Auto-foldering allows imported documents through the eClient, the Client for Windows, or the ODMA support to be organized automatically into folders by a specified attribute.
  • All document routing capabilities are available through both the Client for Windows and the eClient.

An "Explorer"-like interface yields familiar easy to use search results:
  • The tree view is a familiar interface which provides an intuitive, easy to use method for locating items in the system.
  • Table of Contents is automatically refreshed after items are indexed.
  • A table of contents may be copied to the clipboard.
  • Filters allow control over what kinds of items are listed in the workbasket table of contents.

Options dialogs and indicators support user productivity:
  • An options dialog lets users easily set preferences for default size and placement of document windows, table of contents, and thumbnails
  • A graphical indicator in the status bar highlights notes associated with the currently open document
  • The 'Workflow Information' dialog describes the workflow and workbasket, if any, currently associated with an item
