IBM License Use Management: LUM Password Control Level Vendor-Managed Use With vendor-managed use (VMU), the software vendor controls compliance with the terms of the acquisition of the software product. The license information in the Enrollment Certificate File (ECF), is securely encrypted into the product password and cannot be modified. Changing the terms and conditions of the contract (for example, to increase the number of license units or to move the licenses from a machine to another), would require a new ECF from the vendor. Customer-Managed Use To provide greater flexibility to both vendors and customers, LUM supports customer-managed use (CMU) control. Using CMU, the software vendor does not directly associate licenses with a particular license server (or group of license servers). The vendor does not set an upper limit on the number of license units the customer is entitled to use. Instead, it is the customer's responsibility to set that upper limit, depending on the terms of the software product acquisition.
License Use Runtime provides customers with easily accessible usage information, thereby helping to stay within the boundaries of the license agreement. All transactions, such as ECF enrollment, distribution of licenses, updates, deletions, policy changes etc. are logged in a tamper-proof LUM Runtime database for internal and/or external audit purposes. |
