ENOVIA VPLM ENOVIAVPM V1.6

Overview

ENOVIA VPM configurations and products address the data management and process control requirements of engineering and management specialists responsible for development and modification of manufactured products. Companies implementing concurrent engineering methodologies such as joint design teams, early manufacturing involvement, life cycle product design and so on will find that ENOVIA VPM enhances communications within the extended enterprise, provides wide visibility to ongoing product and process definition, and captures and shares design decisions to ensure maximum return on the company's development investment. ENOVIA VPM opens the door to the detailed network of intellectual property that is otherwise hidden in proprietary data produced by CAD and other modelling tools, enabling the design intent and knowledge to be more easily shared and used by the integrated development team.

ENOVIA VPM captures and manages intellectual property generated during product definition and controls changes through configuration management, work packages, data maturity and other integrated functions. Tight integration with CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 on UNIX and Windows platforms enables product authoring and assembly definition and design intent to be captured directly from the CAD system. ENOVIA VPM supports best practices used in development such as variant management, design-in-context, concurrent product and manufacturing process definition and standards-based communications.

In an extended enterprise environment where product development is managed across multiple sites or through an engineering supply chain, ENOVIA VPM provides numerous features to share and collaborate. These range from Web-client functions through remote vaulting, connected ENOVIA VPM installations, connectivity with downstream ERP, support for "Nomad" operations and others.

Features

  • Delivers ENOVIAVPM V1.6 UNIX functional coverage on the Microsoft Windows platform, enabling Virtual Product Manager (VPM) users to migrate from UNIX-based CATIA (V4 or V5) to CATIA V5 running on Microsoft Windows
  • Provides excellent CATIA V5 integration within ENOVIAVPM V1.6, including a wide set of support and management capabilities for V5 data entities that strengthens V5 relational design practices with enhanced impact analysis capabilities
  • Introduces an XML-based distribution process for multi-site support, addressing heterogenous environments, customization and selective checking of the delta replication. Moreover, V1.6 widens the scope of supported objects to replicate
  • Enhances SAP interoperability, Product Structure Navigator (PSN), and product configuration and action management
  • Delivers significant performance improvements to the user's daily tasks of action and product structure management, and greatly reduces V5 data loading time.
  • Further protects a user's existing investment in IT technology by supporting newer versions of operating systems and middleware

Key customer benefits

  • An intuitive user interface allows users to browse through product structures and dependencies, specifying spatial zones and other criteria to select those parts of the product that are to be displayed and to focus quickly on specific portions of product data. Combined with ENOVIA 3d com, ENOVIA VPM data and functions are available across the web.
Benefits include the ability to shorten design cycles by implementing concurrent engineering best practices, sharing data between multiple disciplines, up-front project evaluation based on total change visibility and allowing multiple sites and partners to access common information.
  • Built-in CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 "plug-ins" allow CATIA functions to manage their "hyperlinks" or technological links in ENOVIA VPM : multi-model links, 3D to 2D relationships, skin, assembly and contextual constraints and so on. Hyperlinks ensure that related documents stored in the database are consistent.
Benefits include the ability to capitalise on knowledge accumulated during the development process to optimise product quality and improve planning. Relational design is a design methodology that ensures that the multiple objects manipulated in the geometry- and process-authoring environments are synchronised; design quality, reuse and project management are very largely enhanced when explicit development knowledge is available to all participants.
  • The change and control mechanisms available (Actions, configuration definition, maturity status, P&O) allow engineers to test and store multiple technical solutions to a problem or requirement in a controlled environment. All potential solutions are saved and form a knowledge base that serves to enhance later innovation.
Benefits include precise work package definition and tracking, change tracability, granular identification and visibility and access authorisation to changes, all contributing to more precise project planning and management and augmenting the potential for concurrency.
  • Data reporting and feature management for program tracking.
Benefits include shorter development times by reducing delays encountered in complex, multi-disciplinary processes and improving the understanding of development activities.
  • Variant management to control multiple product options and effectivities.
Benefits include the ability to ensure consistency and understanding of the product definition across the total lifecycle with a single variant definition from early product planning to in-service delivery.
  • Extended enterprise capabilities such as STEP support, "briefcasing", remote vaulting and multi-site support to facilitate exchange of information.
The benefit is easier support for multi-location and multi-partner business configurations with more flexibility in engineering the design chain.
  • Client support on multiple platforms: UNIX and Web platforms for configured products containing CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 assemblies.
The benefit is easy integration into the company's IT environment.
  • Configured design in context. CATIA sessions can be created with a wide variety of multi-CAD data to build a digital mock-up environment that allows the use of all CATIA functions, simulation and process definition.
Benefits include reduced errors and iterations, faster manufacturing ramp-up and fewer parts due to greater use of common elements across product lines. Multi-CAD support facilitates business partner selection and integration by allowing their continued use of non-CATIA CAx tools.
  • Multi-CAD analysis, simulation and product fly-through using the 4D Navigator, ENOVIA DMU Navigator and ENOVIA 3d com Navigator.
Benefits include greater participation of specialists and non-specialists in the development process through easy and concurrent access to common and up-to-date product and process information.
  • Interoperability with ENOVIA PM and SAP.
Benefits include shorter manufacturing ramp-up and early preparation by sharing data between the PLM and ERP spaces.
  • Support for simultaneous use of CATIA V4 and CATIA V5 through synchronised model management.
Benefits include very flexible CATIA V5 introduction into the enterprise processes. ENOVIA VPM becomes the natural platform for enterprises transitioning their CATIA V4 processes to CATIA V5. Synchronised V4/V5 models support use of CATIA V5 for optimised upstream design that makes use of built-in engineering knowledge and features while downstream processes still use CATIA V4 functions.
  • Support for multiple technologies for exchange and interconnection.
Benefits include the ability to choose the level of collaboration required between partners in a development program: from direct connection to a central site, distributed document vaulting, STEP data exchange and direct connection. This allows a great deal of flexibility in setting up a design supply chain. Briefcasing adds to this by allowing offline processing of and update to ENOVIA VPM data.
  • Integrated support for the ENOVIA VPM Companion.
Benefits include easy, online and common access to user teaching material to ensure continuous user education. The teaching material can include not only ENOVIA VPM technical training but also standard or customised methodologies for executing enterprise processes, thus ensuring rapid and consistent deployment of technologies and processes within the company.
  • Interoperability with LCA IP lifecycle and management Workflow.
Benefits include business process tracking and optimisation with shorter process times through timely delivery of user activities and workpackages.
  • Interoperability with SmarTeam through the ability to Import and Export a BoM briefcase compatible with that used in SmarTeam. This requires use of ENOVIA 3d com and the ENOVIA - MultiPDM - CDM/VPM plug-in.

System Requirements
  • Operating environment for LCA workflow - ENOVIAvpm interoperability:
    • Operating systems: IBM AIX, Sun OS, HP10 & HP11 (note that IRIX is not supported as IBM does not support MQSeries directly on this platform)
    • MQSeries: Version 5.2. Three installation modes are possible based on the system setup configuration of ENOVIAVPM and LCA:
      • File-based messaging between LCA and ENOVIAvpm. MQSeries is not required in this case and each system (LCA, ENOVIAvpm) finds its messages in a shared directory
      • Master/Slave - A single MQSeries server is installed either in LCA or in ENOVIAVPM (which ever is the Master)
      • Cluster - MQSeries server must be installed within each ENOVIA server (LCA, ENOVIAvpm)
    • For ENOVIAvpm, the interoperability feature is packaged with ENOVIAvpm as Interface Dispatcher.
    • VSX or VSI license is required along with its pre-reqs.
  • Operating environment for SAP interoperability:
    • Supported operating system: IBM AIX, Sun Solaris
    • SAP R3 Release 4.X
