- Uses dynamic shading, hidden-line removal, animation and transparency to creates realistic images
- Allows users to easily output hard copy and plots
- Dynamically swaps active model overlays
- Enables bi-directional exchange of data between Version 3 and 4
- Supports 1024 x 1280 display
- Simplifies installation and support for single or multiple CATIA version management
Key customer benefits - Standardized look and feel
CATIA V4 Object Manager (COM) provides the standard look and feel across all CATIA applications. These features include the icon-based desktop environment and Motif user interface option for easy, consistent access to user functions plus full display area. Context-sensitive documentation and on-line help increase users' productivity.
- Automated modification capabilities
Through CATIA Object Manager, users can read, overlay, view, rotate, translate and zoom in on 2D and 3D models. The following features are available:
- Creation, management and usage of layers and layer filters
- Element show/no show and pick/no pick graphics attributes
- Line type and thickness
- Color definition
- Use of soft fonts
- Element grouping
- Real-time smooth shading and hidden-line removal
- Conic perspective
- Flat shading of solids, polyhedral surfaces, piping and structural elements
- Transparency simulation
- Session management
The system can simultaneously maintain several models in a session, dynamically swapping between them allowing multiple types of display. The use of mouse, keyboard optional dials and Spaceball provide a range of input devices to control and manipulate visualization and models.
- Hard-copy generation
COM provides workstation users with a screen grab capability to produce tiff or CATIA picture file format images. The product also simplifies hard-copy and plotting functions by allowing a user to work with profiles to store plotting parameters. The system supplies device drivers for most popular plotters. The user can preview a sheet before plotting, then record the scenario and replay it when the design changes.
- Open architecture
CATIA V4's single, integrated database ensures data integrity and associativity across all applications. Open architecture tools allow software developers to interface with the CATIA environment and program company-specific applications extending CATIA's broad capabilities.
- Installation management
COM provides installation management tools that are fast, easy to use and robust. The system automatically checks CATIA prerequisites. Administrators can select a basic scenario for customers who need to use only one CATIA version or an advanced procedure for customers who need to manage different CATIA versions and environments.
- Data migration and exchange
As CATIA is the established medium of information exchange between companies replacing hard copy communication, CATIA V4 Object Manager provides data transfer utilities. Sites using different CATIA versions, application levels, units of measure, external data, syntax rules and platforms (mainframes and workstations) can transfer CATIA models with robust data integrity.
CATIA V4 Object Manager includes utilities to package and unbundle complete work models for exporting and im-porting. The workstation version also includes host and workstation data translation capabilities to allow each platform to manipulate data in its native formats. On the mainframe, these capabilities are available in the CATIA Distributed Services product.
- Data compatibility
CATIA V4 products can directly accept CATIA V3 data. When migrating data downward to this previous version, the system converts new elements to equivalent V3 entities.
