Performance analysis of IBM embedded
PowerPC devices
Benchmarking can help microprocessor customers compare performance
across multiple vendors and can be a critical component in determining
which product is right for their applications. The Embedded
Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) was formed in 1997
to develop meaningful performance benchmarks for processors
and compilers in embedded applications. IBM, a founding member
of EEMBC, has recently published certified benchmark scores
that have allowed customers to evaluate its popular IBM®
PowerPC® 405GPr and 440GP processors.

IBM PowerPC 750GX - IBM's 1.1-GHz PowerPC microprocessor
With the increasing demand for high-performance embedded solutions,
the challenge of managing power dissipation is becoming a
key concern with many embedded applications. IBM is taking
a leadership position by offering world-class performance
at very low power levels utilizing its leading-edge process
technologies to meet these requirements. The IBM® PowerPC®
750GX microprocessor, the fastest and newest addition to the
IBM 7xx PowerPC microprocessor family, meets these requirements.
Sampling for this new processor is planned for July 2003 with
production targeted for December 2003.

Advanced compiler technology reveals IBM PowerPC technology
advantages
Today, designers of high-performance embedded products face
the challenge of choosing the best combination of hardware
and supporting software application tools. After the hardware
architecture is selected, care must be taken to evaluate and
select software development tools that squeeze the highest
performance out of the architecture. After all, what good
is a hardware architecture feature if the software doesn’t
take advantage of it?
