Power Architecture™ licensing

IBM is committed to the promotion of the Power Architecture™ and to providing flexibility to our clients. This includes the ability to access IBM PowerPC® technology through IP licensing to enable licensees to take advantage of IBM's proven technology and help differentiate their products in the marketplace.

IBM offers single- or multiple-use licenses that enable licensees to develop "one-off" chips or a family of IBM PowerPC processor-based designs. Since hard cores are already available at IBM and planned for other foundries, licensees can realize a cost savings by manufacturing with those hard cores, by avoiding technology-porting fees. In addition to this cost savings, licensees can get to market faster with already optimized solutions.
